Description
The Photobacterium damselae real-time qPCR detection kit from Primerdesign provides rapid, sensitive and specific detection of Photobacterium damselae, a halophilic bacterial pathogen that causes photobacteriosis and haemorrhagic septicaemia in tilapia and a broad range of cultured marine fish. Disease can progress quickly under warm-water and intensive-farming conditions, so timely molecular detection is key to limiting mortality and spread. The TaqMan-based assay targets a conserved, species-specific genomic region for confident detection from extracted nucleic acid.
Each kit supplies a ready-to-use primer and probe mix together with a positive control template, providing a complete workflow from extracted DNA on any standard real-time PCR platform. The Advanced format additionally includes an internal extraction control to flag inhibition and a copy-number standard curve for absolute quantification of pathogen load.
Key features of the Photobacterium damselae kit
- Real-time qPCR (TaqMan) detection of Photobacterium damselae
- High specificity across both subspecies of P. damselae
- Sensitive detection supporting early diagnosis and carrier screening
- Primer/probe mix and positive control template included
- Advanced format adds an internal extraction control and a quantification standard
- Compatible with standard real-time PCR instruments
The kit is designed for tilapia and marine aquaculture diagnostics, fish-health screening and biosecurity programmes. Available in Standard (qualitative) and Advanced (quantitative) formats, with complete set-up and result interpretation described in the included IFU/handbook.
