Description
The Betanodavirus real-time qPCR detection kit from Primerdesign provides rapid and specific detection of betanodavirus (nervous necrosis virus, NNV), the causative agent of viral nervous necrosis (VNN), also known as viral encephalopathy and retinopathy (VER). This RNA virus causes high larval and juvenile mortality across more than fifty marine and freshwater fish species and is a major biosecurity concern in hatcheries. The assay uses reverse-transcription real-time PCR to detect a conserved region of the viral RNA genome, enabling reliable diagnosis and surveillance in susceptible species.
Each kit supplies a ready-to-use primer and probe mix with a positive control template and is run as a one-step RT-qPCR, providing a complete workflow from extracted RNA on any standard real-time PCR platform. The Advanced format additionally includes an internal extraction control to flag inhibition and a copy-number standard curve for absolute quantification of viral load.
Key features of the Betanodavirus kit
- One-step RT real-time qPCR detection of betanodavirus (NNV) RNA
- Broad reactivity across clinically relevant genotypes (RGNNV, SJNNV and others)
- High sensitivity for early-stage, sub-clinical and carrier infections
- Primer/probe mix and positive control template included
- Advanced format adds an internal extraction control and a quantification standard
- Compatible with standard real-time PCR instruments
It is ideally suited to aquaculture diagnostics, hatchery biosecurity and broodstock screening for salmonids, tilapia and marine finfish. Available in Standard (qualitative) and Advanced (quantitative) formats, with the complete protocol and result interpretation provided in the included IFU/handbook.
